There are many technological wonders in the world today. Not the least among these wonders is the new technologies that exist in order to allow families and employees to feel a little bit safer within the confines of their homes and workplaces. One way this is accomplished is through a new technology that allows people to unlock a door by entering a key. Well, this is not exactly new technology though it is newly implemented in the average market. For perhaps the first time, this is an affordable option for use as another home or business security measure even for the smallest of businesses.
More than offering another layer of security for keeping intruders out, there is an added layer of security for allowing family members and/or employees in quickly even when keys are not easily found. Parents will never need to worry about teens forgetting their keys and being locked out.
More importantly, families will no longer need to implement a hiding place for keys in this unfortunate event. Cold weather, rain, and panic (because of noises in the night) will no longer mitigate the ability to find keys in the bottoms of purses, handbags, and backpacks-a simple key code is all that will be needed in order to gain entry.
In addition to this benefit however is the added benefit that many of these interesting door locks also have the technology to read a card in order to unlock as well as a device attached to key fobs. You can also avoid fumbling around in the dark trying to force the key to actually fit into the lock.
This will be taken care of automatically. No more lost time, broken nails, or dropped groceries in an effort to gain entry into the home. This home and/or business security feature can eliminate these issues all together.
For employers who own businesses, this adds another layer of security, as it can be a requirement for entry into the building. Pass out cards to all employees with a unique identifying number and at any given time there should be a clear record of who was in the building after hours or who gained early entry into the building. If anything is amiss there is a record of who came and went when (of course this isn’t infallible but it will help if ever there is a need for this information).
Security is important to all of us in this day and age. In fact, security is probably a greater concern for most at this point in time than it was during the height of the Cuban missile crisis. No longer are the unseen enemies far away but now they can work in the same office or live next door. The bad guys do not always wear black hats and, unfortunately, they most often do not carry signs around proclaiming their evil intentions.
We need to protect our families, our employees, and ourselves from the potential evil within as much as the evil that exists outside our borders. This device allows business owners to closely monitor who comes and goes within their business and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing in the modern world.
The technology exists and is now more affordable than at any other time in the past. As a matter of fact, it isn’t much more expensive to obtain this technology as it would be to purchase one of the higher end door locks and deadbolts that are on the market today. For this reason alone it is a good idea to keep this technology in mind and consider incorporating it into both your home and your business as an added security protocol.
If you are considering a security upgrade for your home or business, an electronic entry system is well worth looking into. The benefits go far beyond the typical security measure of keeping those who aren’t exactly invited in but also allows record keeping of those that come and go in businesses and much easier access for homes.
Security And Your Garage Door Opener Remote
You’d be right to be concerned about security with your wireless garage door opener and remote. An intruder can gain access to your garage contents, or even your home if you don’t follow some simple security steps.
Different radio frequencies are used for communication between the remote and the opener. Tiny switches known as dip switches are used to adjust the frequency used between the two. It is a wise idea to reconfigure the dip switch settings to make sure your garage more secure.
A dip switch is a small block of plastic about the size of a dice cut in half. They are usually colored blue or red with 8 to 10 tiny white switch levers positioned up or down. Only when the up / down switch patterns match on both devices will your garage door opener remote control be able to communicate with the opener unit. By adjusting the switch pattern, you are changing the radio frequency used to communicate between the two.
You should be able to easily locate the dip switch on the opener and on the remote control clicker. But to get access to the dip switch on the remote you might need to open it up if the dip switch isn’t found in the battery compartment. Remove the screws holding the remote together, or carefully pry it apart if there are no screws.
Once you have access to the dip switch on the remote, scramble the switch positions, and then match the positions on the openers dip switch block. It does not matter what the pattern looks like, so long as its a random pattern that would be difficult for someone to guess.
If you have trouble getting the remote to work after doing this, verify that the dip switch patterns are the same on both units. Then check the remote battery is in good condition, and as usual, make sure the opener has power, and operates normally using the control panel inside your garage. You might have to read the manual if all else fails.
If you are thinking of getting a new garage door opener or have already gotten one, then you will want to change settings, just to make sure everyone is honest. Don’t forget, your installer or anyone working with him knows your frequency switch settings unless you change them. So go ahead and mix up the switch pattern settings and test that it works.
Even if you are a garage door opener installation do-it-yourself type, you’ll want to make the same changes. Don’t just stay with the factory default settings. If you did, then anyone could just drive down your street with a compatible remote until he finds a door that opens and gives access to your home. Make sure that’s not you.
This advise also applies to anyone buying or renting a new home too. Just like you might change the lock to guarantee there are no spare keys floating around that could compromise your home security. You have no way of knowing how many previous residence there might have been. And you wouldn’t want someone to just walk right into your garage or home.
Don’t Open The Door Until You Have Home Video Security
Nowadays you don’t rush to the door when the doorbell rings. Not anymore. A two-way intercom with a monitor will tell you if it’s a friend or a stranger out there, so better be armed with a home video security system now.
Friendly Strangers on Your Doorstep
It is not easy to open the door to friendly strangers. But how would you know who is waiting for the door to open if you don’t have home video security? Many scary stories about friendly strangers have sent people scurrying to get home video security surveillance. How about you?
You should know by now that families have been harmed, even murdered, by friendly strangers. In most cases, they are not friendly at all. Opening the door just a mere fraction won’t assure your safety from determined intruders. They can kick the door open ” and you’ll be sorry.
With home video security installed in your home, you need not open the door to peek. A monitor will show you who is there. But better play smart too. Get those cameras that can take pictures of not only the person’s face but also of what is beside him, below him, and behind him. You had better check out the stranger at all angles just like in the spy movies. You never know if you’re missing something.
Your friendly cameras
Get those cameras, whether they are wireless or wired, domed or not, hidden or obvious. You will know what you need for your family’s safety. Your wife will no longer be hysterical about the kids playing outdoors if you have the front yard covered.
A home video security system can operate on 4 to up to 16 cameras. If you have a limited budget, you have to start small but smart. You can always add a camera later. If you have the money why not have all your rooms and the outdoors secured?
When browsing online for home video security shops, don’t get confused with the dizzying array of cameras. List the rooms and areas you want installed with surveillance cameras. Here are the places you should be watching:
• playground
• kids’ rooms
• master’s bedroom
• baby’s nursery
• den
• kitchen
• entry ways
• garage
• attic
• cellar
• backyard
From this list, select the most important area if you are starting out with a few cameras, but do get a quad TV so you can watch four areas at a time. This will be more convenient and it will save you time. You don’t have to switch from one area to another at a time.
Freedom for everybody
With home video security, you can let the kids loose in the yard. The kids will love the freedom. You can watch their antics and even butt in when things become rough. Your wife can watch them from the kitchen while she’s doing chores.
Also, teach the kids how to use the monitoring system. When everybody knows how to use the system, they are better equipped for trying events that may occur. Have emergency numbers taped to the table next to the phones and warn them never to open the door, not even to friends, when you and your wife are not home.
With home video security working while you are away, you can check on them online. You get this edge when you arm yourself with the latest surveillance technology. So why wait?
